Somehow, I’ve been privy to numerous conversations ragging on these wild wiggly bridge walkers. Here, I break down the criticisms of highlining into two broad categories: it is not complex enough to have merit and the people are just too much. So here’s my response, a windstorm of thoughts in defense of the highliner from my perspective as a climber.
“Tell me honestly, what grade do you feel very confident onsighting?”
As I lowered, my only thought was that I really, really wanted Sevda to send too. When she sent late in the day, I finally felt the satisfaction and elation of our mutual success.
Since Turkey might be one of the favorite places I’ve ever been, I thought I’d pass along my knowledge so that more climbers will feel emboldened to explore this incredible country covered in rock.
